Roanoke City School Board Approves Bid for STEM Lab



At a recent called meeting, Roanoke City School Board approved the low bid for the construction of a STEM lab at Handley Middle School. Superintendent Greg Foster said the school system had received three bids for the project. The board approved a bid of $989,000 from Headley Construction of Newnan, GA.


Roanoke City Schools System (RCSS) is a wonderful city school system located within Randolph County, Alabama. Handley Middle School serves students in Grades 4-8, before they head to Handley High School, which boasts an extraordinary graduation rate meeting or exceeding 95%.


Along with using a wide variety of technology-forward tools with its middle schoolers, including pedagogical models including Hour of Code, Khan Academy, Typing.com, Prezi, Alabama Virtual Library and others, the new STEM Lab at Handley Middle School will include both classroom and collaborative lab spaces, along with accessible restrooms and storage areas.
