Commissioners approved a $3.2 million contract with Headley Construction Company on Tuesday to build an 18,212-square-foot gymnasium at the park, which is located at 55 Buford Highway in Suwanee.
The gymnasium will be built as an extension of the park’s Community Recreation Center and feature a full-sized basketball court and an elevated indoor track.
“This new gym will greatly enhance youth sports programming for youth athletic associations in northern Gwinnett,” Commissioner Jace Brooks said in a statement.
It will join other amenities at the 304-acre park, including a football field, five soccer fields, nine baseball and softball fields and three-plus miles of trails. Officials said the indoor track will be the second of its kind in the county, joining a similar facility at Lucky Shoals Park in Norcross.
